Infinitely-aLive began in around 2004 as a side-project for zEkE. It has been through several implementations ranging from technical support and computer repair, through an IRC search engine and on to hosting.
I-aL currently supports hosting for eggdrop and IRCd shell accounts as well as audio streaming and basic webhosting packages.

Well, not quite yet.
We’re working on a business plan that will involve the sale of VPS containers. We’re expecting to start with one server supporting 2-3 different plan types, and as affordable expand out into approximately 5 servers, one for each plan type.
We’re anticipating prices per-VPS to be ranging from $5/mo for a very basic unit through to ~ $50/mo for 50GB storage and 1024MB RAM.
We’re also working on a control panel and disk images to utilise when the time comes, as well as the logistics for how the system will work in general.
Our primary focuses in this area are related to pricing and whether to rent dedicated servers, or buy/build our own and colocate. We hope to have more on this venture in coming weeks.

This evening our provider was hit by a DDoS attack on another of it’s VPS containers.

Unfortunately while it was not targeted at I-aL it affected us, our provider restarted their server and so our VPS was also rebooted. We also experienced severe packet loss along with other containers on the server.
The notification systems worked well and I-aL were notified quickly of the outage and were kept up to date with what was happening. After null-routing the affected IP address the server was back up to speed. Our provider has also promised they will continue to work to mitigate the impact of such an attack in the future.
We apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

Rizzo experienced an unexpected downtime last night, crashing at around midnight Eastern Time.
The VPS techs have force-rebooted it, we found no suspicious log entries, the VPS techs found no cause for it to stop either.
At their suggestion we have agreed to reboot it into a remote console that will allow them better diagnostic information if it crashes again.
As a result of the restarts we also found and fixed several bugs in our start up scripts mostly relating to the IPv6 implementation. This has now been resolved and worked perfectly on the second start up.
Naturally we hope that Rizzo doesn’t crash again, but that if it does, we can find out why to prevent further downtime in the future.
I-aL wishes to apologize for any inconvenience caused.

We posted a couple of days ago that we were enabling IPv6 on Rizzo and migrating the existing vHosts over also.
This has now been completed, and we have added numerous additional IPv6 vHosts, a total of 33 so far, plus 2 IPv6 IP addresses that contain words/phrases - not very interesting but it is as good as we can get within the limitations of hex.
The list of vHosts currently assigned to Rizzo can be found here, note we still have capacity for some more if required, and IPv6 addresses can easily be assigned to Rizzo if needed.

Today we added IPv6 addresses to Rizzo, our primary shell server. We have currently assigned 25 IP addresses assigned, and are in the process of migrating 12 vHosts across from Telly to Rizzo at which point the bouncer accounts will also be reassigned.
As is the usual case, we need to allow up to 24 hours to pass before any support cases will be opened for vHosts not working correctly.

With the advent of IPv6 on I-aL Servers we are now able to host IPv6 IRCd, Eggdrop and BNC shells.
When signing up for an IPv6 IRCd account, you will be allocated 2 ports (one SSL enabled and one plaintext) on one of our limited IPv4 addresses as well as an IPv6 address to use in whole.
When signing up for an eggdrop, we will assign 2 ports on one of our IPv4 addresses (one for bots and one for users) and an IPv6 address.
When signing up for a BNC account we will assign 2 ports (one SSL enabled and one plaintext) on one of our limited IPv4 addresses, and you will be able to access our existing IPv6 addresses or we can assign an IPv6 address with a PTR record if you desire a custom reverse DNS.
We’re going to work on creating some vHosts for our IPv6 BNC and Eggdrop accounts, but unfortunately we’re currently limited in domain names available for our use.
Over the next few days we will be updating our packages with regard to the IPv6 upgrades, but the prices on existing packages will not be changing.

Tonight we installed IPv6 on Telly, not incredibly interesting I know, as nothing of importance is hosted on Telly. This does open us up to hosting IPv6 services if desired. If you would like an IPv6 IRCd account, email admin@i-al.net and ask us.

With an effort to reduce the number of sites to maintain and the problems reported with drupal recently (by users of the site and the constant updates), I decided to integrate the features into the Status blog and move status.i-al.net to www.i-al.net.
So far it seems to be working OK, let me know (via comments is probably best) if something is awry.

Hey all,
Teamspeak server is up and available, join the general conversation with us by downloading a client from http://www.teamspeak.com/ and connecting to our server at teamspeak.i-al.net.
We’ll endeavour to keep regular updates of faults and changes on the I-aL servers here too, so far everything is up and fine
